Heart of champion

Alain Boismenu

During all the years he trained in boxing gyms, Alain observed that only students who wanted to box were followed by the coaches. It was then that Alain developed a training program designed specifically for those who do not want to fight, but who nevertheless wish to practice this wonderful sport.

He develops a structured training program including all the boxer's exercises: the dancing rope, the sandbag, the speed ball, push-ups, sit ups, and everything else. And to add to the innovation, Alain will use techno music which, by its speed and rhythm, will determine the intensity of the workouts.

The course

Alain Boismenu

It was while watching the film Rocky in the early 80s that Alain Boismenu felt drawn to the world of boxing. Admiring the courage, determination and training methods of the main character, Alain feels challenged by this sport. Inspired by Rocky, Alain begins an “improvised” training session in the family basement with a few friends. But he knows that this is not enough and quickly feels the need to get down to business and follow real boxer training in a boxing gym.

At the time when Alain started in Olympic boxing, boxing clubs had something intimidating and a “tough” side that repelled many. It was therefore a rather intimidated young man of 15 who presented himself at the Saint Hubert boxing club on January 7, 1983. Welcomed by Mr. Léo Blain who would become his trainer for several years, Alain immediately felt at ease and rush headlong into boxing training. This is the start of a great adventure.

After three months of training, Alain took part in his first boxing fights. And what a dazzling start: 6 victories in as many fights including 5 by Knock Out. Alain is on cloud nine, he is successful, he feels invincible, he already thinks he is world champion! Reality will soon catch up with him.

The next few fights don't go very well. Too sure of himself and underestimating his opponents, Alain suffers 3 consecutive defeats. Hard awakening for the one who imagined himself world champion. Alain will never forget these three defeats. And he will make it a life lesson that he still applies today: you must remain humble in the face of success and you must never underestimate your opponent, whoever they may be.

Building on what he learned in his last fights, Alain took part in his first golden gloves championships in the spring of 1984. Efficient and in control, Alain impressed by winning the 3 fights in the elimination round by knockout in the first round. Alain thus becomes Champion of the golden gloves and Champion of Quebec has his first participation. Quite an achievement.

In 1989, Alain participated in the Canadian Championships. In his third fight of the tournament, he lost by decision in a fairly close fight. Proud of his silver medal, Alain is still very bitter and decides to give up boxing for good. The record of his amateur career is 40 victories and only 9 defeats in 49 fights. An enviable record.

Alain turned professional in 1990. He trained under the guidance of Mr. Georges Drouin (the Pope of boxing), one of the greatest trainers in the history of boxing in Quebec. Alain will have an admirable career with a professional record of 16 wins, 1 draw and only 3 defeats.

To succeed in remaining at the top, Alain had to make many sacrifices. He trains every day, but as the profitable fights are very few in number, Alain has very little money to live on. He plays cards every day to earn a little money and supplement his income. His priority is training which takes up several hours a day.

During all the years he trained in boxing gyms, Alain observed that only students who wanted to box were followed by the coaches. All the others are, generally speaking, left to their own devices without any real supervision. It was then that Alain developed a training program designed specifically for those who do not necessarily want to fight, but who nevertheless wish to practice this wonderful sport.
